Take Action Today – Become a Defender of Potential!
By Lauren Mohatt, Events Manager
Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission is urgent and we need you to stand with us as Defenders of Potential. There are thousands of youth in the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro who could benefit from having a Big in their life. Take action today to help them aspire to do more and achieve their biggest possible futures!
Ready to get started? Outlined below are ways in which you can make a difference in our community right now.
-
Defend, ignite and empower your Little’s potential as a Big Brother, Big Sister or Big Couple! A few hours each month can have a powerful and lasting impact in a youth’s life. There are currently more than 100 youth waiting for a Big like you.
-
You can have a consistent impact on youth in our community by joining our Match Makers program. Match Makers are a unique group of people who choose to provide monetary donations to our organization each month. You determine how much you’d like to give – many of our Match Makers give $25 or more a month. As a way to see the impact of your donations, we’ll send you an email each month highlighting a match you helped create and support. You can help us take those waiting Littles off our list and match them with a Big every month!
-
Big Brothers Big Sisters has partnered with Thrift World to promote the recycling and re-use of used clothing, accessories and other household goods. You may have seen one of our bins around the metro in parking lots of local establishments. Join us in choosing to donate your unwanted items instead of just throwing them away.
-
Service League is a group of community volunteers and professionals from various companies around the metro area who actively work to advance our mission in the community. They help recruit new Bigs, set up information sessions at their work, volunteer at activities designed for our matches, and most importantly, they bring their ‘A’ game to plan and host the annual Big Basketball Bash event.
-
Bowl for Kids’ Sake is our largest annual fundraiser, raising over $365,000 in 2019.
Team Up: Find 4-5 of your friends, family members or coworkers to join your team.
Fundraise: A personal, online fundraising page will be created just for you – share on social media, email or text to ask for donations.
Party: Celebrate all of your hard work with your team at Maplewood Lanes and enjoy 90 minutes of FREE cosmic bowling, pizza, beer and prizes! -
Service League presents the Big Basketball Bash, an interactive college basketball viewing party like no other! You will watch several of the NCAA men’s tournament games in a fun, relaxed environment with food, drinks and so much more!
